Ki Testing
Develop stability, relaxation and confidence through the Four Principles of Mind and Body Coordination.
What Is Ki Testing?
In Ki Aikido, the mind and body are not separate, but they are not always fully coordinated. Ki Testing helps students recognise the difference between tension and relaxation, and between instability and a calm, balanced posture.
Through gentle, non-judgemental tests, students learn to experience the Four Principles of Mind and Body Coordination and apply them during techniques and in everyday life. As students progress, the tests become more challenging.
The Four Principles
1. Think of Your One Point
The One Point is located in the lower abdomen, a few centimetres below the navel. Keeping your attention here helps you feel centred and stable, allowing your movements to flow naturally.
2. Completely Relax
The One Point is located in the lower abdomen, a few centimetres below the navel. Keeping your attention here helps you feel centred and stable, allowing your movements to flow naturally.
3. Have a Light Posture
Allow your weight to settle downwards while maintaining natural, upright alignment. Imagine your body hanging like a relaxed string puppet, with your shoulders free and your posture balanced.

4. Extend Your Mind
Keep your attention extending beyond yourself rather than becoming preoccupied with the test. Stay calm, open and interested in the experience. Whether you pass or fail, each test offers an opportunity to learn.
Learning Through Ki Testing
Ki testing is not simply about passing or failing. It helps us understand how attention, relaxation and posture work together.
With regular practice, we aim to maintain this coordination in Aikido and everyday life.
